Oh, what a beautiful experience happened May 5th!

After years of being separated, we came together and rediscovered each other and a part of ourselves in a totally new light. We were an amazing group of good, fun, intelligent people sharing the issues of growing up.  Memories from childhood and days at Belmont High mingled with an awareness of the mature individuals we have become, partly as a result of our shared experiences from long ago.  We spoke with pride of growing up in the 50's and how it has personally effected our adult lives and the varied paths we have taken in the decades that followed.  There was a rich nostalgia, a yearning for the past, for the freedom of our youth, for our protected environment and for shared values. Yet there was an appreciation for what we have become as a result of the struggles, heartbreaks, changes and joys of later life experiences.

Many of us shared old stories and memorable moments.  We laughed and smiled. We hugged.  We  appreciated the moment.  We recalled  those who were not there and wished they were...  We expressed sincere hope that everyone would be able to come to the next reunion and experience this amazing comradery, as well as appreciate the parallels and divergencies of our lives since 1959.  We fondly remembered and spoke of our classmates who have died.  We relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company, realizing that we were truly blessed!

Much appreciation was expressed about the coordination of this informal, casual event at the “Stonemans’ home”, a spacious, rambling house, perfect for our gathering.   The potluck buffet was a huge success with an over abundance of food, but the opportunity to eat whenever, whatever, with whomever. No one stayed in one place all night.  We moved and mingled comfortably, joining different groups of classmates here and there with Dotty Stoneman and John Bell, our friendly and gracious hostess and host, welcoming and encouraging us to enjoy our precious time together.  And we did.  Oh, what a beautiful experience happened on May 5th!
